John Pemberton (born 1831 - died 1888): Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola is a carbonated soft drink which was first invented by an American pharmacist and Confederate State army veteran called Dr John Stith Pemberton (born 1831 - died 1888). It was reported that Pemberton had suffered a sabre wound while he was serving during the Battle of Columbus, in the final month of the American Civil War in 1865. The ensuing torment he endured from his crippling injury, led him to become a morphine addict. As a result, he made a valiant and desperate attempt to rescue himself from a debilitating dependency. Pemberton began an intrepid search, conducting various experimentations with natural health remedies, which were less addictive than painkillers. Pemberton's initial intention was to create a natural non-alcoholic and none-addictive health drink, which he could continue to consume over a long period of time, without suffering any harmful side effects. Over the course of Pemberton's numerous beverage experiments, he stumbled upon what was considered to be, at that time, a uniquely palatable and refreshing beverage. On 8 May 1886, Pemberton sold his first original Coca-Cola beverage at the Jacob's Pharmacy, in the City of Atlanta, USA.

Asa Griggs Candler (born 1851 - died 1929): Coca-Cola

In 1888, John Pemberton sold the ownership rights for Coca-Cola to Asa Griggs Candler (born 1851- died 1929), a wealthy American businessman, politician, and former Mayor of Atlanta city in Georgia, Griggs Candler envisioned that the Coca-Cola beverage would become a very lucrative business prospect. Therefore, according to some reports, he offered between $1,750 - $2300 to Pemberton in 1888, for the legal rights to the Coca-Cola recipe, and following the acquisition, Candler went on to eventually establish the Coca-Cola enterprise in 1892, after which he used his wealth, marketing experiences, business acumen, and business connections to develop what was to become one of America's most lucrative and successful beverage organizations within the United States, and ultimately, a multibillion-dollar industry across the entire world. It is said that although, it is widely known that the two basic ingredients for making the Coca-Cola soft drink are coca leaves and kola nuts, the highly cherished and sought after formula for the original classic Coca-Cola beverage, has remained a very closely guarded secret to the present day. Cola acuminata and Cola nitida (brownish coloured caffeine-containing nuts) are grown from evergreen trees of the cocoa family, which are native to tropical Africa, but are known to be cultivated extensively in the American tropics. Despite the creation of numerous other soft drinks over many generations, the Coca-Cola beverage remains the USA's most enduring and successful soft drink brand, which is currently sold in over 200 nations globally.

Frank Robinson (born 1845 - died 1923): Coca-Cola Logo

Frank Mason Robinson (born 1845 - died 1923) was the American bookkeeper of Pemberton Chemical Company, who created the iconic Coca-Cola logo, which has spanned many generations. Robinson decided to name the beverage 'Coca-Cola' because he concluded that this eye catching visual image would be very pleasing to a variety of audiences. He also used a lettering style known as Spencerian script for the Coca-Cola text, which contributed to the vivid and captivating image. The colour red was introduced for the trademark logo, in 1948, because originally, the barrels of Coca-Cola bottles were painted a glaring red colour so that tax agents could distinguish them easily from alcoholic drinks during transportation deliveries. The first Coca-Cola advertisement picture appeared on 29 May 1886, in the Atlanta Journal, Atlanta, United States. Since then, spanning many generations, there has been a perpetual proliferation of Coca-Cola adverts created artistically with the aim to entertain as well as charm the viewing public to partake. The most popular soft drink in the world never seems to lose its effervescent buzz or sparkle as far as consumers are concerned. It is often said that Coca-Cola contains a unique flavour that lingers on the palate, which is why it continues to captivate millions of consumers across the globe.
